Screen walls

A screen wall is an aluminum and glass exterior cladding that is attached to the building, wrapping around it to create a transparent, up-to-date and impressive façade. Screen walls allow maximum penetration of natural light into the building space throughout the day, and contribute to significant saving of energy, thermal insulation and temperature retention.

Screen walls are one of the leading trends in the world of architecture, commonly found in office buildings, shopping malls, public buildings and luxury residential buildings.

Yalrom's screen wall systems are among the most advanced and impressive in their field. We offer a winning combination of aesthetics and functionality, maximizing client's needs and project budgets.

Technologies and practices

There are two main technologies in the field of screen walls:
·  Unitize System - structural screen wall.
·   Stick System - pillar method / ladder method.

Each method includes varied types of systems. The use of the Unitize System technology is common in Europe and the US. In Israel this technology is used less, despite being of higher quality, mainly due to lack of knowledge, understanding and budgets.

Work procedure

Work procedure with the Stick System method:

Steps performed at the manufacturing plant:

· Cutting aluminum profiles, pillars and beams, and adjustment to dimensions.
· Processing, punching and connecting.
· Each two pillars are connected by a number of cross beams.
· Glazing seal.

Installation procedure:
Installation is done on the building's façade using scaffolding.

· Installing anchors on the exterior of the concrete floor.
· Connecting anchor-ready ladders.
· Connecting cross beams between the ladders.
· Sealing the joints between the cross beams and columns.
· Installation of spandrel zones (sealed areas) and fire barriers.
· Sealing spandrel circumference to the aluminum frame.
· Installation of the glass with the help of temporary latches.
· Sealing the gap between the glass and the aluminum frame, according to type of screen wall.
· Assembly of outer glass bars.
· Assembly of glass bars' cover.
· At the stage of connecting the beam joints to the pillars and in the connection and sealing of the spandrel zone we have to deal with the wind pressure that affects water and wind penetration.

Work procedure with the Unitize System method:

Steps performed at the manufacturing plant:
· Cutting aluminum profiles, pillars and beams, and adjustment to dimensions.
· Processing, punching and connecting.
· Connecting the panel frame and beams, and sealing the connections with industrial adhesives.
· Laying EPDM or other glazing seals.
· Assembly of spandrel boards, tins, and fire defenses.
· Assembly of glass and gluing it to the aluminum frame with structural silicone (structural gluing on some types of walls).
· Assembly of glass bars.

Installation procedure:
Installation of screen walls is done inside the building, without the need for scaffolding.
Installation is done in 2 stages:
· Installing anchors, usually on the concrete floor.
· Hanging the prepared units on the anchors.

The manufacturing process, most of which is done in the factory, and the relatively simple installation give the Unitize method a huge advantage, which is added to another important plus: work is finished on every floor as soon as the panels are hung.
